The group's members are all highly trained singers, many of whom have studied at prestigious music schools such as the Vienna Conservatory and the Mozarteum in Salzburg. The ensemble's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works. One of the highlights of Vokalensemble NOVA Wien's early career was their performance at the 2004 International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, Germany. The ensemble won first prize in the mixed choir category, as well as the audience prize and the prize for the best interpretation of a contemporary work. In addition to their performances, Vokalensemble NOVA Wien is also committed to promoting new music and supporting young composers. They have commissioned several new works from emerging composers, and have premiered many of these works in their concerts. The ensemble's dedication to excellence has been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. In addition to their success at the International Chamber Choir Competition in Marktoberdorf, they have also won first prize at the International Choir Competition in Budapest, Hungary, and the Grand Prix at the International Choral Festival in Tolosa, Spain.
