Katia Labèque, known professionally as Katia Care, is a French classical pianist born on March 11, 1950, in Bayonne, France. She is one half of the Labèque sisters, a renowned piano duo that has been performing together for over four decades. Katia Care began her musical journey at a young age, studying piano with her mother, a music teacher. She later attended the Paris Conservatory, where she studied under renowned pianist Lucette Descaves. It was during her time at the conservatory that she met her sister, Marielle Labèque, and the two began performing together as a piano duo. In 1975, the Labèque sisters made their debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, performing Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos with the Cleveland Orchestra. This performance marked the beginning of their international career, which has taken them to some of the world's most prestigious concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Sydney Opera House. Throughout their career, the Labèque sisters have collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras in the world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Zubin Mehta, and the London Symphony Orchestra. They have also performed with a wide range of musicians outside of the classical genre, including jazz pianist Chick Corea and singer-songwriter Sting. In addition to her work as a pianist, Katia Care is also a dedicated educator. She has taught masterclasses at institutions around the world, including the Juilliard School in New York City and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is also a member of the faculty at the Paris Conservatory, where she teaches piano. Over the course of her career, Katia Care has received numerous awards and accolades for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 1985, she was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of her artistic achievements. She has also been awarded the Victoire de la Musique, France's most prestigious music award, on multiple occasions. She is the founder of the KML Foundation, which supports music education and cultural initiatives around the world.
