She was born on March 18, 1963, in Tarrytown, New York, to parents who were both music teachers. Her mother was a pianist, and her father was a trumpet player. Williams was forced to resign from her position as Miss America, but she refused to let the scandal define her career. After the scandal, Williams turned to music and released her debut album, "The Right Stuff," in 1988. The album was a commercial success, reaching number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart and earning her three Grammy nominations. Her follow-up album, "The Comfort Zone," was even more successful, selling over 2 million copies and earning her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Williams continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s, including "The Sweetest Days" and "Next." She also ventured into acting, appearing in films such as "Eraser" and "Soul Food" and television shows such as "Desperate Housewives" and "Ugly Betty." In 2002, Williams made her Broadway debut in the musical "Into the Woods." She received critical acclaim for her performance and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She went on to star in other Broadway productions, including "The Trip to Bountiful" and "After Midnight." Williams has also had a successful career as a television host and producer. She has hosted several award shows, including the Miss America pageant and the Academy Awards pre-show. She also produced and starred in the VH1 reality series "Hollywood Exes." Throughout her career, Williams has received numerous awards and accolades. She has won four Grammy Awards, including Best Dance Recording for "Colors of the Wind" from the Disney film "Pocahontas."
