Landlinger's musical education began with his father, who taught him the basics of music theory and composition. He then went on to study with some of the most renowned musicians of his time, including Johann Joseph Fux and Georg Christoph Wagenseil. Landlinger's talent and dedication to music quickly became apparent, and he soon began to make a name for himself in the Viennese music scene. In 1741, Landlinger was appointed as a violinist in the court orchestra of Empress Maria Theresa. Landlinger quickly established himself as a skilled and versatile musician, and he soon became a favorite of the empress.
