Role:EnsembleEnsemble Schönbrunn is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 in Vienna, Austria. The ensemble is named after the famous Schönbrunn Palace, which was the summer residence of the Habsburg monarchs. The ensemble's mission is to perform music from the Baroque and Classical periods on period instruments, in the style of the time. The ensemble's main members are violinist Raimund Lissy, cellist Bernhard Naoki Hedenborg, and harpsichordist Gerald Hambitzer. Lissy and Hedenborg are both members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, while Hambitzer is a professor of harpsichord at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Ensemble Schönbrunn has performed at many prestigious venues around the world, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Lincoln Center in New York. The ensemble has also performed at numerous festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico. One of the highlights of Ensemble Schönbrunn's career was their performance at the 200th anniversary of the death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1991. The ensemble performed Mozart's Requiem in D minor at the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna, which was attended by dignitaries from around the world. Ensemble Schönbrunn has also received numerous awards for their performances and recordings. In 2002, the ensemble won the Echo Klassik award for their recording of Johann Sebastian Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. The ensemble has also been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Small Ensemble Performance. In addition to their performances and recordings, Ensemble Schönbrunn is also committed to music education. The ensemble regularly gives masterclasses and workshops for young musicians, and has worked with students at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
