María Paz Santibañez is a Chilean classical pianist who has gained international recognition for her virtuosic performances and musical interpretations. Born in Santiago, Chile in 1989, Santibañez began playing the piano at the age of six and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She began studying with renowned Chilean pianist Roberto Bravo and later went on to study at the University of Chile's School of Music. Santibañez's early performances were marked by her technical proficiency and musical sensitivity. She won several national competitions in Chile and was invited to perform at prestigious venues such as the Teatro Municipal de Santiago and the Teatro del Lago in Frutillar. In 2008, she was awarded the Chilean National Music Prize for Young Musicians, which recognized her as one of the country's most promising young talents. Santibañez's international career began in 2010 when she was invited to perform at the International Piano Festival in La Roque d'Anthéron, France. Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she was invited back to the festival in 2011 and 2012. She has since performed at major venues and festivals around the world, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Festival Hall in London, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. One of Santibañez's most notable performances was her debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2014. She performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, and her performance was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth. The concert was broadcast live on German television and was later released on DVD. Santibañez has also been recognized for her recordings, which showcase her versatility as a pianist and her commitment to exploring lesser-known repertoire. Her debut album, released in 2013, featured works by Chilean composers such as Juan Orrego-Salas and Sergio Ortega. Her second album, released in 2016, focused on the music of French composer Gabriel Fauré and was praised for its delicate and nuanced interpretations. In addition to her performing and recording career, Santibañez is also a dedicated educator. She has taught masterclasses at universities and conservatories around the world and has served as a jury member for several international piano competitions. She is committed to promoting classical music in her native Chile and has founded a music festival in the town of Pucón, which brings together young musicians from around the country. Santibañez's achievements have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2015, she was awarded the Chilean National Arts Prize, which is the highest honor given by the Chilean government to artists in all disciplines. She has also been named a Steinway Artist, which recognizes her as one of the world's leading pianists. Despite her success, Santibañez remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to push herself as a musician and to explore new repertoire and musical styles.
