Ensemble Wien is a classical music ensemble based in Vienna, Austria. The ensemble was founded in 1985 by violinist Rainer Honeck and cellist Franz Bartolomey, both members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble's mission is to perform chamber music from the classical and romantic periods, as well as contemporary works. The ensemble's main members include Rainer Honeck and Sebastian Breuninger on violin, Ernst Ottensamer on clarinet, Franz Bartolomey on cello, and Stefan Vladar on piano. All of the members are accomplished musicians with extensive experience performing in orchestras and chamber ensembles. Ensemble Wien has performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The ensemble has also collaborated with renowned soloists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Yo-Yo Ma, and Lang Lang. One of the highlights of Ensemble Wien's career was their performance at the Salzburg Festival in 1991. The ensemble performed Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A major with clarinetist Ernst Ottensamer, and the performance was met with critical acclaim. The ensemble has also performed at the Lucerne Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Ensemble Wien has recorded extensively, with over 20 albums to their name.
