Artist Info
Mark Viner is a British classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and deep understanding of the classical repertoire. Born in 1989 in London, Viner showed an early aptitude for music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument and began studying with renowned teachers such as Maria João Pires and Norma Fisher. Viner's early years were marked by a series of impressive achievements. At the age of 11, he won the prestigious EPTA UK Piano Competition, and at 14 he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Purcell School of Music. He went on to attend the Royal College of Music, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honors and a Master of Performance degree with distinction. Throughout his studies, Viner developed a deep love for the music of the Romantic era, particularly the works of Chopin and Liszt. He also became interested in the lesser-known works of composers such as Alkan and Godowsky, whose complex and demanding pieces have become a hallmark of Viner's repertoire. Viner's career as a professional pianist began in earnest in 2012, when he won the prestigious Jaques Samuel Intercollegiate Piano Competition. This victory led to a series of high-profile performances, including a recital at London's Wigmore Hall and a concerto performance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then, Viner has established himself as one of the most exciting and dynamic pianists of his generation. He has performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also collaborated with leading orchestras such as the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Viner's performances have been praised for their technical brilliance, emotional depth, and interpretive insight. He is particularly admired for his ability to bring out the nuances and subtleties of complex works, such as Liszt's Sonata in B minor and Alkan's Symphony for Solo Piano. His recordings of these pieces have been widely acclaimed, earning him a reputation as one of the foremost interpreters of Romantic piano music. In addition to his performing career, Viner is also a dedicated teacher and scholar. He has given masterclasses and lectures at leading music schools around the world, and has published articles and essays on a wide range of musical topics. He is also the founder and artistic director of the London Piano Festival, which showcases the work of some of the world's most talented pianists. Viner's achievements have been recognized with a number of awards and honors. In 2015, he was named a Steinway Artist, joining a select group of pianists who are endorsed by the prestigious piano manufacturer. He has also been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society's Young Artist Award and the Worshipful Company of Musicians' Silver Medal. Despite his many accomplishments, Viner remains committed to exploring new avenues of musical expression and pushing the boundaries of his art. He continues to seek out challenging and innovative works, and to collaborate with other musicians and artists in order to create new and exciting performances.More....
