The ensemble was founded in 1982 by five talented musicians from Denmark, Norway, and Sweden who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to explore the possibilities of the wind quintet. The founding members of the Scandinavian Wind Quintet were flutist Ulla Miilmann, oboist Kjell-Inge Stevensson, clarinetist Kjell Fageus, bassoonist Knut Sønstevold, and French horn player Håkan Hardenberger. Each member brought their own unique style and expertise to the ensemble, creating a dynamic and cohesive sound that quickly gained recognition in the classical music world. The Scandinavian Wind Quintet's repertoire includes a wide range of classical music, from traditional works by Mozart and Beethoven to contemporary pieces by modern composers. The ensemble's ability to seamlessly blend different styles and genres has made them a favorite among audiences and critics alike. Over the years, the Scandinavian Wind Quintet has performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and music festivals, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salzburg Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and soloists in the classical music world, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the highlights of the Scandinavian Wind Quintet's career was their performance at the 1994 Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. The ensemble was chosen to perform for the Nobel laureates and other distinguished guests, including the King and Queen of Norway. The performance was a great success, and the ensemble received widespread acclaim for their beautiful and moving rendition of Mozart's Quintet in C Major. In addition to their many performances, the Scandinavian Wind Quintet has also received numerous awards and accolades for their contributions to the classical music world. In 1990, the ensemble was awarded the Nordic Council Music Prize, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the Nordic countries. The ensemble has also been recognized for their recordings, including a Grammy nomination for their album "The Wind Quintets of Carl Nielsen." Despite their many achievements, the members of the Scandinavian Wind Quintet remain humble and dedicated to their craft. They continue to perform and record together, inspiring audiences with their beautiful music and innovative approach to the wind quintet.More....
