Artist Info
La Compagnia del Madrigale is a renowned Italian classical music ensemble that specializes in performing Renaissance and Baroque vocal music. The ensemble was founded in 2009 by six accomplished musicians who shared a passion for early music and a desire to explore the rich repertoire of madrigals, motets, and other vocal works from the 16th and 17th centuries. The founding members of La Compagnia del Madrigale were Rossana Bertini (soprano), Giuseppe Maletto (countertenor), Daniele Carnovich (tenor), Raffaele Giordani (tenor), Massimo Altieri (baritone), and Franco Pavan (lute and theorbo). All of them had extensive experience performing with other early music ensembles and were highly regarded in the field. From the beginning, La Compagnia del Madrigale aimed to bring a fresh and authentic approach to the interpretation of early vocal music. They studied original sources and historical performance practices to create performances that were faithful to the spirit of the music and the times in which it was composed. They also sought to bring out the emotional and expressive qualities of the music, often using subtle nuances of phrasing and dynamics to convey the meaning of the texts. The ensemble quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to create a rich and nuanced sound that was both historically informed and emotionally engaging. They performed extensively throughout Italy and Europe, appearing at major festivals and concert series such as the Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht, the Festival de Saintes in France, and the Tage Alter Musik in Regensburg. One of the highlights of La Compagnia del Madrigale's early career was their recording of Claudio Monteverdi's complete book of madrigals, which was released in 2012 on the Glossa label. The recording was widely praised for its musicality, sensitivity, and attention to detail, and it won several awards, including the prestigious Gramophone Award for Early Music in 2013. Since then, La Compagnia del Madrigale has continued to perform and record extensively, building a repertoire that includes works by composers such as Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Carlo Gesualdo, and Orlando di Lasso. They have also collaborated with other leading early music ensembles and musicians, including the Huelgas Ensemble, the Concerto Italiano, and the viola da gamba player Paolo Pandolfo. In addition to their performances and recordings, La Compagnia del Madrigale has also been active in promoting early music education and outreach. They have conducted workshops and masterclasses for young musicians and have worked with schools and community organizations to bring early music to a wider audience. Today, La Compagnia del Madrigale is recognized as one of the leading ensembles in the field of early vocal music. Their performances and recordings continue to receive critical acclaim, and they are admired for their commitment to historical authenticity and their ability to bring the music of the past to life in a way that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally moving.More....
