Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine is a French classical music choir that has been active since 1976. The choir is based in the Hauts-de-Seine department of France and is composed of young singers aged between 8 and 25 years old. The choir has gained a reputation for its high-quality performances and has won numerous awards and accolades over the years. The choir was founded in 1976 by Jean-Claude Hartemann, a renowned French conductor and composer. Hartemann was passionate about music education and wanted to create a choir that would provide young singers with the opportunity to develop their musical skills and perform at a high level. He recruited a group of talented young singers from the Hauts-de-Seine department and began training them in the art of choral singing. Under Hartemann's leadership, the choir quickly gained a reputation for its exceptional performances. The choir's repertoire included a wide range of classical music, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary works. The choir's performances were characterized by their precision, clarity, and emotional depth, and they quickly became a favorite of audiences and critics alike. Over the years, Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Carnegie Hall in New York. The choir has also collaborated with some of the world's most renowned conductors and orchestras, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of the choir's most notable performances was their appearance at the 1998 World Cup Final in Paris. The choir performed the French national anthem, "La Marseillaise," in front of a global audience of millions, and their performance was widely praised for its power and emotion. Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine has also won numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1983, the choir won the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Mozart's Requiem, and in 1992, they won the Victoires de la Musique award for their recording of Fauré's Requiem. The choir has also been awarded the title of "Choir of the Year" by the French Ministry of Culture on multiple occasions. Despite the many accolades and achievements of Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine, the choir remains committed to its mission of providing young singers with the opportunity to develop their musical skills and perform at a high level. The choir continues to recruit talented young singers from the Hauts-de-Seine department and provides them with rigorous training in choral singing and music theory. Today, Maîtrise des Hauts-de-Seine is led by conductor and composer Gaël Darchen. Under Darchen's leadership, the choir has continued to push the boundaries of choral music and has expanded its repertoire to include works by contemporary composers.
