La Fonte Musica is a classical music ensemble that specializes in the performance of medieval and Renaissance music. The ensemble was founded in 2008 by Michele Pasotti, a renowned Italian musicologist and performer, and has since become one of the most respected and sought-after ensembles in the field of early music. The ensemble's name, La Fonte Musica, is derived from the Italian phrase "la fonte della musica," which means "the source of music." This name reflects the ensemble's commitment to exploring the origins and evolution of Western classical music, and to presenting this music in a way that is both historically informed and artistically compelling. La Fonte Musica is comprised of a core group of musicians who are all highly skilled performers and scholars of early music. Michele Pasotti serves as the ensemble's artistic director and plays a variety of instruments, including the lute, vihuela, and guitar. Other members of the ensemble include Marco Ferrari (recorder and cornetto), Giuseppe Maletto (voice and percussion), and Elena Carzaniga (voice and harp). Over the years, La Fonte Musica has performed at some of the most prestigious music festivals and concert halls in Europe and beyond. The ensemble has been featured at the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Festival Oude Muziek in Bruges, the Festival de Musique Ancienne de Callas, and the Festival de Musique Baroque de Pontoise, among others. In addition, the ensemble has performed at venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Philharmonie de Paris, and the Wigmore Hall in London. One of the highlights of La Fonte Musica's career was their performance of the complete works of Guillaume de Machaut at the Utrecht Early Music Festival in 2013. This ambitious project involved performing all of Machaut's surviving works, which spanned a period of over 50 years and included a wide range of musical genres and styles. The ensemble's performance was widely praised for its technical virtuosity, musical sensitivity, and historical accuracy. In addition to their live performances, La Fonte Musica has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. Their debut album, "La Fonte Musica: Music from the Peterhouse Partbooks," was released in 2011 and received widespread praise for its innovative approach to Renaissance polyphony. The ensemble's subsequent recordings, including "La Fonte Musica: Music from the Medici Codex" and "La Fonte Musica: Music from the Chantilly Codex," have also been highly regarded by critics and audiences alike. La Fonte Musica has received numerous awards and accolades for their work in the field of early music. In 2012, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or for their recording of music from the Peterhouse Partbooks. The following year, they received the Prix de la Critique de Disque in France for their recording of music from the Medici Codex. In addition, the ensemble has been nominated for several other awards, including the International Classical Music Awards and the Gramophone Awards. Overall, La Fonte Musica is a highly respected and influential ensemble in the field of early music. Their commitment to historical accuracy, technical excellence, and artistic innovation has earned them a devoted following among both scholars and music lovers, and their performances and recordings continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world.
