Brigitte Poulin is a Canadian classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a pianist, composer, and educator. Born in Montreal in 1971, Poulin began her musical journey at a young age, showing a natural talent for the piano. She went on to study at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. After completing her studies, Poulin began to establish herself as a performer, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She quickly gained a reputation for her technical skill and musical sensitivity, and was soon in demand as a performer throughout Canada and beyond. One of the highlights of Poulin's early career was her performance at the 1995 Montreal International Music Competition, where she was awarded the prize for best Canadian performer. This recognition helped to raise her profile both at home and abroad, and she began to receive invitations to perform at major festivals and concert series around the world. Over the years, Poulin has collaborated with many of the leading musicians of her generation, including violinist Angèle Dubeau, cellist Stéphane Tétreault, and clarinetist André Moisan. She has also performed with a number of leading orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. In addition to her work as a performer, Poulin has also established herself as a composer. Her music is characterized by its lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and imaginative use of texture and color. She has written works for a variety of ensembles, including solo piano, chamber groups, and orchestra. Poulin's compositions have been performed by many leading musicians and ensembles, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Gryphon Trio. And in 2016, she was awarded the Prix Opus for best concert of the year in the solo recital category. Poulin's recordings have also received critical acclaim. Her 2010 album, "Les Plaisirs illuminés," which features works by Debussy, Ravel, and Messiaen, was named one of the top classical recordings of the year by the Montreal Gazette. Her 2015 album, "L'air du temps," which features her own compositions, was also highly praised by critics. Today, Poulin continues to be an active performer, composer, and educator. She remains committed to promoting the music of Canadian composers, and to inspiring the next generation of musicians.
