The trio was founded in 1988 by three accomplished musicians, Simon Rowland-Jones, David Waterman, and Levon Chilingirian, who shared a passion for chamber music and a deep admiration for the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Simon Rowland-Jones, the violinist of the trio, was born in London in 1950. He studied at the Royal College of Music and later at the Juilliard School in New York. He has performed with many renowned orchestras and ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and the Nash Ensemble. David Waterman, the cellist, was born in 1950 in Manchester. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and later at the Juilliard School. He has performed with many prestigious orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Levon Chilingirian, the violist, was born in Cyprus in 1950. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and later at the Juilliard School. He has performed with many distinguished ensembles, including the Chilingirian Quartet, which he founded in 1971. The Beethoven String Trio of London has gained a reputation for their exceptional performances of Beethoven's works, as well as their interpretations of other classical composers.
