The Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie is a classical music ensemble based in Rouen, France. The orchestra was founded in 1991 and has since become one of the most prominent orchestras in the region. The founding of the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie was the result of a collaboration between the city of Rouen and the Opéra de Rouen. The goal was to create a professional orchestra that would serve as the resident ensemble for the Opéra de Rouen and also perform concerts throughout the region. The orchestra's first conductor was Jean-Claude Casadesus, who led the ensemble from 1991 to 1998. Under his leadership, the orchestra quickly gained a reputation for excellence and began to attract top-tier musicians from around the world. In 1998, the orchestra appointed its second conductor, Oswald Sallaberger. Sallaberger continued the tradition of excellence established by Casadesus and led the orchestra to new heights of artistic achievement. During his tenure, the orchestra performed a wide range of repertoire, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. One of the highlights of the orchestra's early years was its performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in 1995. The concert, which was held in the historic Rouen Cathedral, was a huge success and cemented the orchestra's reputation as one of the finest ensembles in France. Over the years, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie has continued to attract top-tier musicians and conductors. In 2003, the orchestra appointed its third conductor, Sébastien Billard. Billard, who had previously served as the orchestra's assistant conductor, brought a fresh perspective to the ensemble and helped to expand its repertoire even further. Under Billard's leadership, the orchestra has continued to perform a wide range of repertoire, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works. In 2010, the orchestra performed the world premiere of a new work by French composer Thierry Escaich, which was commissioned by the orchestra. In addition to its performances at the Opéra de Rouen, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie has also performed at a number of prestigious venues throughout France and Europe. The orchestra has performed at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Royal Opera House in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among others. The Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2005, the orchestra was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for its recording of works by French composer Florent Schmitt. The orchestra has also been nominated for several Victoires de la Musique awards, which are the most prestigious awards in French classical music. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie is also committed to music education and outreach. The orchestra regularly performs concerts for schoolchildren and has developed a number of educational programs to introduce young people to classical music. In conclusion, the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie is a world-class classical music ensemble that has established itself as one of the finest orchestras in France. With its commitment to artistic excellence, innovative programming, and music education, the orchestra is sure to continue to inspire and delight audiences for many years to come.More....
