Her father, Hans Trekel, was a well-known conductor, and her mother, Ursula Trekel, was a pianist. Ute grew up in a musical family and was exposed to music from a very young age. Ute started playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent. She received her first piano lessons from her mother and later studied with renowned pianists such as Walter Gieseking and Wilhelm Kempff. Ute's talent was recognized early on, and she won several awards and competitions as a child. In 1956, Ute made her debut as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23. This performance marked the beginning of her career as a concert pianist. In 1962, Ute married the German conductor Horst Stein, and the couple had two children. Ute continued to perform and record throughout her marriage, and her career continued to flourish.
