Peter Handsworth was a renowned classical music artist who made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on 12th June 1950 in London, England. From a young age, Handsworth showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Handsworth attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist and composer, John Lill. He graduated with honors and went on to pursue a career in music. Handsworth's talent and dedication to his craft soon caught the attention of music critics and audiences alike. In 1975, Handsworth made his debut performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, where he played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5. The performance was a huge success, and Handsworth received critical acclaim for his interpretation of the piece. This performance marked the beginning of Handsworth's successful career as a classical music artist. Over the years, Handsworth performed at some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, and the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. Handsworth's repertoire was vast and included works by some of the greatest composers in history, such as Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Brahms. He was particularly known for his interpretation of Beethoven's piano sonatas, which he performed in their entirety on several occasions. In addition to his performances, Handsworth was also a prolific recording artist. He recorded over 50 albums throughout his career, which included solo piano works, concertos, and chamber music. His recordings received critical acclaim and won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance in 1987. Handsworth was also a dedicated teacher and mentor to many young musicians. He taught at several music schools and universities, including the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Juilliard School in New York. His students included some of the most talented young pianists of their generation, many of whom went on to have successful careers in music. Throughout his career, Handsworth received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of music. In 1992, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire for his services to music. Handsworth continued to perform and record music until his death on 15th August 2015. He was 65 years old.
