Yegor Dyachkov is a renowned cellist and professor of music at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1971, Dyachkov began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Natalia Shakhovskaya, one of the most prominent cello teachers in Russia. In 1992, Dyachkov moved to Canada to continue his studies at the Université de Montréal with Yuli Turovsky, the founder and conductor of the I Musici de Montréal chamber orchestra. Dyachkov quickly established himself as a rising star in the Canadian classical music scene, winning numerous awards and competitions, including the prestigious Prix d'Europe in 1997. Dyachkov has performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Kent Nagano, Charles Dutoit, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In addition to his solo performances, Dyachkov is also an active chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Tokyo String Quartet, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and the Gryphon Trio. He is a founding member of the Trio Hochelaga, which has been praised for its "exquisite playing" and "impeccable ensemble work." Dyachkov is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Université de Montréal, the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, and the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy. In 2011, he joined the faculty of the Schulich School of Music at McGill University, where he is currently a professor of cello and chamber music. Throughout his career, Dyachkov has received numerous awards and accolades for his performances and recordings. In 2000, he was awarded the Virginia Parker Prize by the Canada Council for the Arts, which recognizes outstanding young Canadian musicians. In addition to his performances and recordings, Dyachkov is also a dedicated advocate for contemporary music. He has premiered many new works by Canadian and international composers, including Ana Sokolović, John Rea, and Kaija Saariaho. He is also a member of the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, a Montreal-based contemporary music ensemble.
