Born on February 22, 1962, in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, Latry grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a very young age. His father was a music teacher, and his mother was a pianist, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Latry began his musical education at the age of six, studying piano and music theory with his mother. He later started playing the organ at the age of 12, and quickly developed a passion for the instrument. He continued his studies at the Conservatoire National de Région de Boulogne-sur-Mer, where he studied with Marie-Claire Alain, one of the most renowned organists of the 20th century. In 1981, Latry moved to Paris to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he studied with some of the most prominent organists of the time, including Michel Chapuis, Gaston Litaize, and Jean-Claude Raynaud. He graduated with first prizes in organ, improvisation, harmony, counterpoint, and fugue. After completing his studies, Latry quickly established himself as one of the leading organists of his generation. He was appointed as the titular organist of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris in 1985, a position he still holds today. He has also been a professor of organ at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris since 1995. Latry has performed extensively throughout the world, giving recitals in some of the most prestigious concert halls and cathedrals. He has also performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He has collaborated with many renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, and Sir Simon Rattle. One of the highlights of Latry's career was his performance at the inauguration of the refurbished organ at the Royal Festival Hall in London in 2014.
