Giulio Bertola was born on May 12, 1990, in Turin, Italy. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his father being a pianist and his mother a singer. From a young age, Bertola showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later started studying the violin and the viola, which became his main instruments. Bertola's musical education began at the Conservatory of Turin, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violinist and pedagogue Salvatore Accardo. He later continued his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany, where he received a diploma in viola performance. Bertola's career as a professional musician began in 2012, when he won the first prize at the International Viola Competition in Cremona, Italy. This achievement brought him international recognition and opened the doors to many opportunities. He has since performed as a soloist and chamber musician in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, Asia, and the United States. One of Bertola's most notable performances was his debut at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2015, where he played the solo part in Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola, and Orchestra. The concert was conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and received critical acclaim. Bertola's performance was praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. Bertola has also collaborated with many renowned musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich, violinist Maxim Vengerov, and cellist Gautier Capuçon. He is a member of the Trio Metamorphosi, a chamber music ensemble that he founded with pianist Federico Nicoletta and cellist Francesco Dillon. The trio has performed in major concert halls and festivals around the world and has recorded several albums. In addition to his career as a performer, Bertola is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught masterclasses at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Conservatory of Turin, and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, among others. He is currently a professor of viola at the Conservatory of Music in Geneva, Switzerland. Bertola's achievements have been recognized with several awards and honors. In addition to his first prize at the International Viola Competition in Cremona, he has won the first prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Osaka, Japan, and the second prize at the International Viola Competition in Vienna, Austria. He was also awarded the prestigious Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship in 2017, which provides support and recognition to outstanding young musicians.
