Phoenix Ensemble is a classical music ensemble based in New York City. The group was founded in 2005 by a group of musicians who shared a passion for chamber music and a desire to bring their art to a wider audience. Since its founding, Phoenix Ensemble has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber music groups in the United States. The ensemble's main members are violinist Rachel Lee Priday, cellist Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir, and pianist Conor Hanick. All three musicians are highly accomplished and have performed with some of the world's most prestigious orchestras and ensembles. Rachel Lee Priday has been praised for her "dazzling technique and soulful expressiveness" by The New York Times, while Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir has been called "charismatic and compelling" by The Washington Post. Conor Hanick has been described as "fearless and technically brilliant" by The New Yorker. Phoenix Ensemble has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. The ensemble has also been praised for their performances of works by contemporary composers, including John Adams and Steve Reich. In addition to their performances, Phoenix Ensemble is committed to education and outreach. The group has conducted masterclasses and workshops for young musicians at schools and universities across the country.
