Eric Carlson was born on May 15, 1985, in New York City. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, Eric showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Eric's parents recognized his potential and enrolled him in the Juilliard School's Pre-College Division when he was just six years old. He studied under renowned pianist and teacher Yoheved Kaplinsky, who recognized his exceptional talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, Eric won numerous competitions and awards, including the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Young Artists when he was just 12 years old. He also performed in major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall. After graduating from the Juilliard School, Eric continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Gary Graffman. During his time at Curtis, Eric won several more competitions and awards, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition. Eric's career as a professional pianist took off after he won the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2007. This competition is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, and Eric's victory cemented his status as one of the most talented and promising young pianists of his generation. Since then, Eric has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many of the world's most renowned conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Daniel Barenboim, and Simon Rattle. Eric's repertoire is vast and includes works by many of the great composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the works of Sergei Prokofiev, and his recordings of Prokofiev's piano concertos have received critical acclaim. In addition to his performing career, Eric is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught masterclasses at many of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Throughout his career, Eric has received numerous awards and honors, including the Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Gilmore Artist Award, and the Order of Friendship from the Russian Federation. He has also been named a Steinway Artist, an honor reserved for the world's most accomplished and distinguished pianists. Despite his many achievements, Eric remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and teach around the world, inspiring and delighting audiences with his virtuosic playing and passionate interpretations of some of the greatest works in the classical repertoire.
