Mozzafiato is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1988 by the renowned American conductor and harpsichordist, Charles Sherman. The ensemble is known for its exceptional performances of Baroque and Classical music, and has gained a reputation as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the world. The founding members of Mozzafiato were all accomplished musicians in their own right, and included Charles Sherman on harpsichord, Stephen Hammer on trumpet, John Abberger on oboe, and Michael McCraw on bassoon. Over the years, the ensemble has expanded to include a number of other talented musicians, including violinists Cynthia Roberts and Elizabeth Blumenstock, cellist Phoebe Carrai, and flutist Sandra Miller. The ensemble has also been featured on numerous recordings, including several critically acclaimed albums for the Harmonia Mundi label. One of the highlights of Mozzafiato's career was their performance at the 1996 Boston Early Music Festival, where they were awarded the prestigious BEMF Prize for their outstanding contributions to the field of early music.
