Lev Vinocour is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a pianist, conductor, and chamber musician. Born in Moscow, Russia in 1978, Vinocour showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. His parents, both professional musicians, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Vinocour's early training was rigorous and demanding. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with some of the most respected teachers in the country, including Lev Naumov and Sergei Dorensky. He also participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Murray Perahia and András Schiff. In 1997, Vinocour won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Senigallia, Italy, which launched his career as a soloist. He went on to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many distinguished conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Sir Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim. Vinocour's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, among others. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Sergei Prokofiev, and has recorded several of Prokofiev's piano concertos with the Mariinsky Orchestra under the direction of Valery Gergiev. In addition to his work as a soloist, Vinocour is also an accomplished chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading string quartets, including the Emerson, Borodin, and Takács Quartets. He is a founding member of the Trio Solisti, a piano trio that has been praised for its "musical fire" and "technical brilliance." Vinocour's conducting career began in 2010, when he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has also conducted the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de Lille, among others. Throughout his career, Vinocour has received numerous awards and accolades. In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians. He has also been a recipient of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, the Gilmore Young Artist Award, and the Ruhr Piano Festival's Young Artist Award. Vinocour is known for his technical virtuosity, his musical sensitivity, and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he performs. He is a passionate advocate for classical music and is committed to bringing it to new audiences. He has been involved in several educational initiatives, including the Mariinsky Theatre's Young Musicians Program, which provides training and performance opportunities for young musicians in Russia. Vinocour currently resides in New York City, where he continues to perform, conduct, and teach. He is a faculty member at the Juilliard School and the Mannes School of Music, and is in demand as a guest artist and teacher at music festivals around the world.More....
