James Anderson-Besant was born on May 12, 1985, in London, England. He grew up in a family of musicians, with his mother being a pianist and his father a cellist. From a young age, James showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. James received his early musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he studied under the tutelage of renowned pianist and teacher, Christopher Elton.
