Role:EnsembleKammerchor der Frauenkirche, also known as the Chamber Choir of the Frauenkirche, is a renowned classical music ensemble based in Dresden, Germany. The choir was founded in 2005 by Matthias Grünert, the then-organist of the Frauenkirche, and has since become one of the most respected and sought-after choirs in Europe. The Frauenkirche, or Church of Our Lady, is a historic Lutheran church located in the heart of Dresden. The church was destroyed during the bombing of Dresden in World War II and was left in ruins for over 50 years. In 1994, a group of citizens formed the Frauenkirche Foundation with the goal of rebuilding the church. The reconstruction was completed in 2005, and the church was consecrated on October 30 of that year. The Kammerchor der Frauenkirche was founded in the same year, and its first performance was at the consecration ceremony of the Frauenkirche. The choir consists of 30 female singers, all of whom are volunteers. The members of the choir come from all over Germany and are selected through a rigorous audition process. The choir's repertoire includes a wide range of music, from Renaissance and Baroque to contemporary works. The choir is known for its exceptional vocal technique and its ability to perform complex and challenging music with precision and clarity. One of the highlights of the choir's early years was its performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion in 2006. The performance was conducted by Matthias Grünert and featured the Kammerchor der Frauenkirche, the Dresdner Kreuzchor, and the Dresdner Philharmonie. The performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and musical excellence, and it helped to establish the Kammerchor der Frauenkirche as a major force in the world of classical music. Since then, the choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and the Salzburg Festival. The choir has also collaborated with some of the most respected conductors and orchestras in the world, including Sir Simon Rattle, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In 2010, the choir released its first CD, "Bach: Motetten," which was widely praised for its musicality and technical excellence. The CD features the choir's performances of Bach's six motets, which are considered some of the most challenging and complex works in the choral repertoire. In 2015, the choir celebrated its 10th anniversary with a series of concerts and events in Dresden and throughout Germany. The highlight of the celebrations was a performance of Brahms' Ein deutsches Requiem at the Frauenkirche, which was conducted by Matthias Grünert and featured the Kammerchor der Frauenkirche and the Dresdner Philharmonie. The choir has received numerous awards and accolades over the years, including the Echo Klassik award in 2011 for its CD "Bach: Motetten." The Echo Klassik is one of the most prestigious awards in the world of classical music, and it is awarded annually to the best classical recordings and performances. In addition to its performances and recordings, the Kammerchor der Frauenkirche is also committed to promoting music education and outreach. The choir regularly holds workshops and masterclasses for young singers, and it has also performed benefit concerts to raise money for various charitable causes.More....
