He made his conducting debut in 2010 with the Orchestre National de France, and he has since conducted many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the New York Philharmonic. One of the highlights of Richard's career as a cellist was his performance of the complete Bach Cello Suites at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris in 2012. The performance was widely praised by critics and cemented Richard's reputation as one of the world's leading cellists. As a conductor, Richard has also received critical acclaim for his performances. In 2015, he conducted a production of Wagner's Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany, which was widely praised for its innovative staging and musical interpretation. Richard is also known for his work as a chamber musician. He has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet and the Guarneri Quartet. He is a founding member of the Trio Wanderer, which has won numerous awards and performed at many of the world's leading concert halls. In addition to his performing career, Richard is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München in Germany.
