From a young age, Marchand showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Marchand's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She attended the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied composition under the tutelage of renowned composers such as Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Boulez. Marchand's early works were heavily influenced by the avant-garde style of these composers, and she quickly gained recognition for her innovative approach to composition. In 1997, Marchand graduated from the Conservatoire de Paris with top honors and began working as a freelance composer. Her early works were primarily chamber music pieces, and she quickly gained a reputation for her ability to create complex and challenging compositions that pushed the boundaries of traditional classical music. Marchand's breakthrough came in 2001 when she was commissioned to compose a piece for the Paris Opera. The resulting work, titled "Les Nuits Blanches," was a stunning success and cemented Marchand's reputation as one of the most exciting young composers in France. Over the next few years, Marchand continued to compose works for a variety of ensembles and orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France and the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
