The Locrian Ensemble is a classical music group that has been captivating audiences with their unique sound and style for over two decades. The ensemble was formed in 1995 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for classical music and a desire to create something truly special. The founding members of the Locrian Ensemble were violinists Fiona McCapra and Elizabeth Cooney, violist Justin Pearson, cellist Justin Pearson, and pianist Viv McLean. Together, they set out to create a chamber music group that would showcase their individual talents while also highlighting the beauty and complexity of classical music. Over the years, the Locrian Ensemble has grown and evolved, adding new members and expanding their repertoire to include a wide range of classical music styles and genres. Today, the ensemble is made up of some of the most talented musicians in the world, including violinists Fiona McCapra and Elizabeth Cooney, violist Justin Pearson, cellist Justin Pearson, pianist Viv McLean, and flutist Rowland Sutherland. One of the highlights of the Locrian Ensemble's career was their performance at the 2002 Proms, one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world. The ensemble performed a stunning rendition of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23, which was met with thunderous applause from the audience. In addition to their performance at the Proms, the Locrian Ensemble has also been recognized for their outstanding contributions to classical music with a number of awards and accolades. In 2005, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Chamber Music, which is considered one of the highest honors in the classical music world. The Locrian Ensemble has also been praised for their innovative approach to classical music, which often involves blending traditional classical music with other genres and styles.
