Donatas Katkus is a renowned Lithuanian conductor and violinist who has made a significant contribution to the classical music world. He was born on August 22, 1965, in Vilnius, Lithuania, and grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist, which inspired him to pursue a career in music. Katkus began his musical education at the age of six, studying violin at the National M.K. Ciurlionis School of Art in Vilnius. He continued his studies at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where he received a degree in violin performance. He also studied conducting with Professor Juozas Domarkas, a renowned Lithuanian conductor. Katkus began his professional career as a violinist, performing with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.
