Hjordis Schymberg was a Swedish soprano who was born on June 27, 1909, in Stockholm, Sweden. She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father, Gustaf Schymberg, was a well-known baritone and her mother, Hilda Schymberg, was a pianist. Hjordis showed an early interest in music and began singing at a young age. Schymberg studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and made her debut in 1931 at the Royal Opera House in Stockholm. She quickly gained recognition for her powerful voice and dramatic stage presence. In 1933, she was invited to perform at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, where she sang the role of Donna Anna in Mozart's "Don Giovanni."
