La Dolcezza is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2012 by a group of talented musicians who shared a passion for Baroque music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative and dynamic performances that showcase the beauty and complexity of Baroque music. The founding members of La Dolcezza were violinist and artistic director Claire Jolivet, cellist and music director Ezra Seltzer, and harpsichordist and continuo player Avi Stein. All three musicians had extensive experience performing Baroque music and were eager to create an ensemble that would explore the rich repertoire of this period. Over the years, La Dolcezza has expanded to include a number of other talented musicians, including flutist Emi Ferguson, oboist and recorder player Priscilla Herreid, and soprano Molly Quinn. The ensemble's core members are all highly skilled musicians who have performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles. One of the highlights of La Dolcezza's early years was its debut performance at the Boston Early Music Festival in 2013. The ensemble's performance was well-received by audiences and critics alike, and it helped to establish La Dolcezza as a rising star in the world of Baroque music. Since then, La Dolcezza has gone on to perform at a number of other prestigious venues and festivals, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the Glimmerglass Festival. The ensemble has also collaborated with a number of other musicians and ensembles, including the vocal ensemble TENET and the period-instrument orchestra Juilliard415. One of the most notable performances by La Dolcezza was its 2016 concert at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. The concert, titled "The Art of Fugue," featured a program of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including his monumental "Art of Fugue" for keyboard. The ensemble's performance was praised for its technical precision and emotional depth, and it helped to cement La Dolcezza's reputation as one of the leading Baroque ensembles in the United States. In addition to its performances, La Dolcezza has also received a number of awards and accolades over the years. In 2014, the ensemble was awarded the prestigious Early Music America/Naxos Recording Competition prize for its debut album, "La Dolcezza." The album, which featured works by Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Philipp Telemann, was praised for its virtuosity and musicality. La Dolcezza has also been recognized for its commitment to education and outreach. The ensemble has worked with a number of schools and community organizations to bring Baroque music to a wider audience, and it has also offered masterclasses and workshops for aspiring musicians. Overall, La Dolcezza is a dynamic and innovative ensemble that has made a significant contribution to the world of Baroque music. With its talented musicians, innovative programming, and commitment to education and outreach, the ensemble is sure to continue to delight audiences for years to come.More....
