The Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo is a classical music duo consisting of pianists Helena Bugallo and Amy Williams. The duo has gained international recognition for their unique and innovative approach to classical music performance. Helena Bugallo was born in Spain and began studying piano at a young age. She went on to study at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo and later at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. Amy Williams was born in the United States and began studying piano at the age of five. She went on to study at the Eastman School of Music and later at the University of Southern California. The duo first met while studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover. They quickly discovered a shared passion for contemporary classical music and began performing together as the Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo. The duo's performances are known for their innovative programming and unique interpretations of classical music. They have performed at major venues around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Sydney Opera House. One of the duo's most notable performances was their 2010 performance at the Venice Biennale. They performed a program of contemporary classical music that included works by John Cage, Morton Feldman, and György Ligeti. The performance was widely praised for its innovative programming and the duo's virtuosic playing. In addition to their performances, the Bugallo-Williams Piano Duo has also been recognized for their recordings. They have released several albums, including a recording of the complete piano music of György Ligeti. In 2009, they were awarded the prestigious Kranichsteiner Musikpreis, which is awarded to outstanding young musicians in the field of contemporary classical music.
