Artist Info
Role:PerformerRiley Lee is a renowned classical music artist who has made significant contributions to the world of music. He was born in 1951 in the United States and grew up in Colorado. Lee's interest in music began at a young age, and he started playing the flute when he was just ten years old. He was inspired by the music of the Beatles and other popular bands of the time, but he soon discovered a love for classical music. Lee's passion for music led him to study at the University of Hawaii, where he earned a degree in ethnomusicology. He also studied the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute, under the guidance of the renowned master Katsuya Yokoyama. Lee's dedication to his craft paid off, and he became the first non-Japanese person to earn a shihan (master's) degree in shakuhachi. Lee's mastery of the shakuhachi has earned him numerous accolades throughout his career. He has performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Lincoln Center. He has also collaborated with many other musicians, including the Kronos Quartet, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. One of Lee's most notable performances was at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. He was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where he played a traditional Korean song on his shakuhachi. The performance was widely praised, and it helped to introduce Lee's music to a global audience. In addition to his performances, Lee has also released several albums of his music. His first album, "Shakuhachi: The Japanese Flute," was released in 1980 and featured traditional Japanese music. He has since released many other albums, including "Rainforest Reverie," which features music inspired by the sounds of the Australian rainforest, and "Postcards from Bundanon," which was recorded at the Bundanon Trust, an artist's retreat in New South Wales, Australia. Lee's contributions to the world of music have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the Order of Australia in 2010 for his services to music. He has also been recognized by the Japanese government, which awarded him the Order of the Rising Sun in 2018 for his contributions to the promotion of Japanese culture. Despite his many accomplishments, Lee remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform and record music, and he also teaches the shakuhachi to students around the world. His passion for music and his commitment to sharing it with others have made him a beloved figure in the world of classical music.More....
