Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 12, 1975, Damas showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. His parents, who were both music teachers, recognized his talent and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Damas received his early music education at the National Conservatory of Lisbon, where he studied under the guidance of renowned violinist Gerardo Ribeiro. He later went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he received a scholarship to study under the tutelage of renowned violinist György Pauk.
