The United States Air Force Academy Band is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1955. The band is made up of 55 active duty Air Force musicians who are stationed at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The band's mission is to inspire and uplift the American people, honor our nation's veterans, and support the Air Force Academy's mission of developing leaders of character for the United States Air Force. The band is led by Colonel Don Schofield, who serves as the commander and conductor of the ensemble. Colonel Schofield is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and has served in the Air Force for over 30 years. He has led the band since 2017 and has been instrumental in expanding the band's outreach efforts and increasing its visibility across the country. The United States Air Force Academy Band has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. The band has also performed for numerous heads of state, including Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, as well as Queen Elizabeth II of England. One of the band's most notable performances was at the 2009 Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama. The band performed in the Inaugural Parade and also provided music for the Inaugural Ball. The band's performance was widely praised for its precision and professionalism, and it helped to cement the band's reputation as one of the premier military bands in the world. In addition to its performances at high-profile events, the United States Air Force Academy Band is also committed to community outreach and education. The band regularly performs at schools and community events across the country, and it also offers a variety of educational programs for students of all ages.
