From a young age, Nolan showed a natural talent for music and began playing the piano at the age of four. He later picked up the violin and the viola, which became his primary instruments. Nolan attended the Juilliard School in New York City, where he studied under some of the most renowned classical musicians in the world. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007 and went on to pursue a Master of Music degree at the same institution. Throughout his career, Nolan has performed with some of the most prestigious orchestras in the world, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Gustavo Dudamel, Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim. One of Nolan's most notable performances was his solo debut with the New York Philharmonic in 2010, where he performed Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 5. The performance was widely praised by critics, who noted Nolan's technical skill and emotional depth. In addition to his solo performances, Nolan is also a dedicated chamber musician.
