La Caccia is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 in the Netherlands. The ensemble is known for its unique approach to early music, combining historical research with modern interpretation to create a fresh and exciting sound. The founding members of La Caccia were the Dutch musicians Saskia Coolen (recorder), Erik Beijer (viola da gamba), and Patrick Denecker (oboe). They were joined by the Belgian harpsichordist Bart Naessens, and together they began exploring the rich repertoire of early music from the 16th to the 18th centuries. One of the highlights of La Caccia's early career was their performance at the Utrecht Early Music Festival in 2004. The festival is one of the most prestigious early music events in the world, and La Caccia's performance was well-received by both audiences and critics. The ensemble's innovative approach to early music was praised for its freshness and vitality. Over the years, La Caccia has expanded its repertoire to include music from the Baroque and Classical periods, as well as contemporary works. The ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists, including the Dutch poet and writer Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer, and the Dutch jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap. One of the most notable performances in La Caccia's career was their 2010 concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The Concertgebouw is one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, and La Caccia's performance was a testament to the ensemble's growing reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative early music ensembles in Europe. In addition to their performances, La Caccia has also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their 2008 album "The Spirit of Gambo" was awarded the prestigious Edison Classical Award, and their 2012 album "The Art of the Recorder" was nominated for a Grammy Award. La Caccia's current members include Saskia Coolen (recorder), Erik Beijer (viola da gamba), Bart Naessens (harpsichord), and Reine-Marie Verhagen (soprano). The ensemble continues to push the boundaries of early music, exploring new ways to bring this rich and vibrant repertoire to modern audiences.More....
