He was the son of a musician and grew up in a family of musicians. His father, Pierre Phalèse the Elder, was a composer and music publisher, and his brother, Jean Phalèse, was also a composer and music publisher. Phalèse began his musical education at a young age, studying with his father and other local musicians. He quickly showed a talent for music and began composing his own works. In 1530, he moved to Antwerp, where he worked as a music publisher and composer. Phalèse's music was highly regarded during his lifetime, and he was known for his skill in composing both vocal and instrumental music. He wrote a number of chansons, motets, and madrigals, as well as instrumental works for lute, keyboard, and other instruments. One of Phalèse's most famous works is his collection of dance music, "Les Basses Danses de Marguerite d'Autriche." This collection, published in 1530, contains over 100 pieces of music for various dances, including pavanes, galliards, and branles. The collection was dedicated to Marguerite of Austria, the governor of the Netherlands, and was widely popular throughout Europe. Phalèse also wrote a number of other instrumental works, including his "Fantasies for Lute," which were published in 1571. These pieces are considered some of the finest examples of Renaissance lute music, and are still performed today. In addition to his work as a composer, Phalèse was also a music publisher. He published a number of collections of music, including works by other composers as well as his own compositions. His publishing business was highly successful, and he was known for his high-quality editions of music. Phalèse died in Antwerp in 1575, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful music and a thriving publishing business. His works continue to be performed and studied today, and he is remembered as one of the great composers of the Renaissance era.More....
