Artist Info
Birth:November 27, 1969 in Brussels, BelgiumStephane Ginsburgh is a Belgian classical pianist who has gained international recognition for his virtuosic performances and innovative interpretations of classical music. Born in Brussels in 1971, Ginsburgh began playing the piano at a young age and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and later at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne, Germany, where he received his diploma with distinction. Ginsburgh's career as a professional pianist began in the early 1990s, when he won several prestigious competitions, including the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Amsterdam and the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht. These early successes helped to establish him as a rising star in the classical music world, and he soon began to receive invitations to perform at major concert halls and festivals around the world. One of Ginsburgh's most notable performances came in 1998, when he played the complete piano works of Arnold Schoenberg in a marathon concert that lasted over 12 hours. This ambitious project was a major undertaking, requiring Ginsburgh to master a vast and complex repertoire of music that is notoriously difficult to perform. However, his dedication and skill paid off, and the concert was widely praised for its technical brilliance and emotional depth. In addition to his work as a solo pianist, Ginsburgh is also an accomplished chamber musician and collaborator. He has performed with a wide range of musicians and ensembles, including the Arditti Quartet, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, and the Ictus Ensemble. He is particularly known for his collaborations with contemporary composers, and has premiered numerous works by composers such as Frederic Rzewski, Michael Finnissy, and Georges Aperghis. Ginsburgh's recordings have also received critical acclaim, with many critics praising his ability to bring new life to familiar works and to uncover hidden depths in lesser-known pieces. His recordings of the complete piano works of Erik Satie and the complete piano sonatas of Alexander Scriabin are particularly noteworthy, and have been hailed as definitive interpretations of these composers' works. Throughout his career, Ginsburgh has received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 2001, he was awarded the Fuga Prize by the Belgian Composers' Union, and in 2005 he received the Prix de la Critique musicale belge for his recording of the complete piano works of Satie. He has also been a recipient of the prestigious Belgian Francqui Prize, which is awarded to outstanding scholars and artists in recognition of their contributions to their field. Despite his many accomplishments, Ginsburgh remains committed to exploring new avenues of expression and pushing the boundaries of classical music. He is known for his adventurous programming, which often includes works that are rarely performed or that challenge traditional notions of what classical music can be. He is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music, and has worked closely with many of today's leading composers to bring their works to a wider audience. In addition to his work as a performer, Ginsburgh is also a respected teacher and mentor.More....
