Nanny Larsen-Todsen was a Norwegian classical music artist who was born on August 22, 1871, in Bergen, Norway. She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father, Lars Larsen-Todsen, was a well-known conductor and composer in Norway, and her mother, Anna Larsen-Todsen, was a pianist. Nanny showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at a young age. She was a prodigious talent and quickly became known for her exceptional musical abilities. She studied at the Bergen Conservatory of Music and later at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany. In 1893, Nanny made her debut as a concert pianist in Bergen, Norway. Her performance was well-received, and she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented pianists in Norway. She went on to perform in concerts throughout Europe, including in Germany, France, and England. One of Nanny's most significant performances was in 1901 when she performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, and her performance was met with critical acclaim. The Times of London praised her playing, saying, "Miss Larsen-Todsen's playing was marked by a rare combination of technical skill and musical insight." Nanny continued to perform throughout Europe and became known for her interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann. She was also a champion of Norwegian composers and often included their works in her performances. In addition to her career as a concert pianist, Nanny was also a respected music teacher. She taught at the Bergen Conservatory of Music and later at the Oslo Conservatory of Music. Many of her students went on to have successful careers as musicians. Nanny received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1912, she was awarded the Order of St. Olav, one of Norway's highest honors, for her contributions to Norwegian music. She was also awarded the King's Medal of Merit in Gold in 1936. Nanny continued to perform and teach until her death on December 30, 1952, in Oslo, Norway. She was 81 years old. Her legacy as a pianist and music educator lives on, and she is remembered as one of Norway's most talented and influential classical music artists.
