Opera Fuoco is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2003 by the French conductor and harpsichordist David Stern. The ensemble is based in Paris, France, and is dedicated to the performance of Baroque and Classical music, with a particular focus on opera. David Stern, the founder and artistic director of Opera Fuoco, is a highly respected conductor and harpsichordist who has worked with some of the world's leading orchestras and opera companies. He is the son of the renowned violinist Isaac Stern, and grew up surrounded by music. After studying at the Juilliard School in New York, he moved to Europe to pursue his career as a conductor and harpsichordist. The other main members of Opera Fuoco are the singers who perform with the ensemble. These include some of the most talented young opera singers in Europe, many of whom have gone on to successful careers in the opera world. The ensemble also works with a number of guest artists, including instrumentalists and conductors. One of the highlights of Opera Fuoco's early years was their production of Handel's opera "Ariodante" in 2005. This production was highly acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, and helped to establish the ensemble's reputation as one of the leading Baroque opera ensembles in Europe. Since then, Opera Fuoco has gone on to perform a wide range of operas and other works from the Baroque and Classical periods, including works by Mozart, Gluck, and Haydn. In addition to their performances, Opera Fuoco is also involved in a number of educational and outreach programs. These include workshops and masterclasses for young singers and instrumentalists, as well as performances in schools and other community venues. The ensemble is committed to promoting the appreciation and understanding of classical music, and to nurturing the next generation of musicians. Over the years, Opera Fuoco has received a number of awards and accolades for their performances and recordings. In 2010, they were awarded the prestigious Diapason d'Or for their recording of Mozart's "La Finta Giardiniera". This award is one of the most highly regarded in the classical music world, and is a testament to the ensemble's exceptional musicianship and artistry. In addition to their recordings, Opera Fuoco has also been recognized for their live performances. In 2014, they were awarded the Prix de la Critique for their production of Gluck's "Orphée et Eurydice" at the Opéra de Massy. This award is given annually by the French Association of Music Critics, and is a testament to the ensemble's outstanding performances and contributions to the world of classical music.
