Hanna Auerbacher was a renowned classical music artist who was born on January 1, 1924, in Vienna, Austria. She was the daughter of a Jewish family and grew up in a musical household. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Hanna showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. In 1938, when Hanna was fourteen years old, the Nazis annexed Austria, and her family was forced to flee to France. They settled in Nice, where Hanna continued her music studies. She studied with the renowned pianist Alfred Cortot and won several awards for her performances. In 1942, Hanna and her family were arrested by the Gestapo and sent to the concentration camp at Theresienstadt. Despite the horrific conditions, Hanna continued to play the piano and gave several performances in the camp. She also wrote a diary, which she buried in the camp before being liberated in 1945. After the war, Hanna returned to Vienna and resumed her music studies. She studied with the pianist Paul Badura-Skoda and won several awards for her performances. She was known for her interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert. She also recorded several albums, including a recording of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32, which was widely praised by critics. In addition to her performing career, Hanna was also a dedicated teacher. She taught at the Vienna Music Academy and the Salzburg Mozarteum, where she mentored several young pianists who went on to have successful careers of their own. Hanna received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 1972, she was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art.
