Nextime Ensemble is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2010 by a group of young musicians who shared a passion for chamber music. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming and dynamic performances. The founding members of Nextime Ensemble were violinist Sarah Whitney, violist Nathan Schram, cellist Andrew Yee, and pianist David Kaplan. All four musicians had studied at top music schools and had performed with prestigious orchestras and ensembles before coming together to form Nextime Ensemble. From the beginning, Nextime Ensemble set out to create a unique sound and style that would set it apart from other classical music ensembles. The group's repertoire includes both traditional classical works and contemporary pieces, and the musicians often collaborate with composers to create new works that showcase their individual talents and the ensemble's collective sound. One of the highlights of Nextime Ensemble's early career was its performance at the 2011 Chamber Music America Conference, where the group was selected to showcase its talents for an audience of industry professionals. The ensemble's performance was well-received, and it led to several high-profile engagements, including a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada. Over the years, Nextime Ensemble has continued to build its reputation as one of the most innovative and exciting classical music ensembles in the world. The group has performed at major venues and festivals across the United States and Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In addition to its live performances, Nextime Ensemble has also released several critically acclaimed recordings. The group's debut album, "Nextime Ensemble: Live at the Cell," was released in 2013 and features a mix of classical and contemporary works. The album received rave reviews from critics and helped to establish Nextime Ensemble as a major force in the classical music world. One of the most notable aspects of Nextime Ensemble's performances is the group's commitment to engaging with its audiences. The musicians often speak directly to the audience, providing context and insights into the music they are playing. They also frequently collaborate with other artists, including dancers, visual artists, and actors, to create multimedia performances that are both visually stunning and musically compelling. In recognition of its innovative programming and dynamic performances, Nextime Ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 2014, the group was awarded a Chamber Music America Residency Partnership Grant, which allowed it to collaborate with the Brooklyn-based dance company, Dance Heginbotham, on a new work that combined live music and dance. In 2016, Nextime Ensemble was awarded a prestigious Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant, which allowed the group to commission a new work by composer Andrew Norman. The resulting piece, "The Companion Guide to Rome," premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2017 and was hailed as a major achievement for both the ensemble and the composer. Today, Nextime Ensemble continues to push the boundaries of classical music, creating innovative and exciting performances that engage and inspire audiences around the world.
