The Church of the Transfiguration Boys Choir is a renowned classical music group that has been captivating audiences with their angelic voices for over three decades. The choir was founded in 1985 by Dr. James Litton, who served as the choir's director until his passing in 2019. The choir is based in the Church of the Transfiguration, a beautiful Episcopal church located in Orleans, Massachusetts. The choir's journey began when Dr. Litton, who was then the director of the American Boychoir School in Princeton, New Jersey, was invited to lead a summer music program at the Church of the Transfiguration. The program was a huge success, and Dr. Litton was inspired to create a permanent boys choir at the church. He recruited a group of talented young singers from the local community and began training them in the art of choral singing. The choir quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional talent and professionalism. They began performing at local events and soon caught the attention of music lovers across the country. In 1988, the choir released their first album, "Christmas at the Transfiguration," which received critical acclaim and helped to establish them as one of the top boys choirs in the United States. Over the years, the Church of the Transfiguration Boys Choir has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Vatican. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned conductors and musicians in the classical music world, including Leonard Bernstein, James Levine, and Yo-Yo Ma. One of the choir's most memorable performances was their appearance at the 1993 Presidential Inauguration of Bill Clinton. The choir performed a stirring rendition of "America the Beautiful" that brought tears to the eyes of many in the audience. The performance was widely praised and helped to cement the choir's reputation as one of the best in the country. The Church of the Transfiguration Boys Choir has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1990, they were awarded the prestigious ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music.
