Sandauer's musical education began at the Vienna Academy of Music, where he studied piano, composition, and conducting. He was a gifted student and quickly gained recognition for his talent. In 1933, he graduated with honors and began his career as a pianist and conductor. Sandauer's early career was marked by several notable performances. In 1934, he made his debut as a pianist with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. The performance was a huge success, and Sandauer was praised for his technical skill and musicality. Sandauer's career continued to flourish, and he soon became known as one of the most talented pianists and conductors of his generation. He performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.
