Angela Chun is a renowned classical music artist who has made a name for herself as a violinist. Born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1974, Chun grew up in a family of musicians. Her father, Kyung-Wha Chung, is a world-famous violinist, and her mother, Myung-Wha Chung, is a cellist. Her older brother, Myung-Whun Chung, is a conductor and pianist. With such a musical family background, it was no surprise that Chun would follow in their footsteps. Chun began playing the violin at the age of three, and by the time she was six, she had already made her debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. She continued her studies in the United States, attending the Juilliard School in New York City, where she studied with Dorothy DeLay. Chun also studied with Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. Chun's talent as a violinist was evident from an early age, and she quickly gained recognition for her exceptional skills. In 1992, she won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which led to her debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She has since performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Chun's most notable performances was her debut at Carnegie Hall in 1995, where she performed the Brahms Violin Concerto with the New York Youth Symphony. Chun has also performed at other prestigious venues, such as the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. She has performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the Emerson String Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, and the Tokyo String Quartet. Chun is also a founding member of the Johannes Quartet, which has received critical acclaim for its performances and recordings. Chun has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In addition to winning the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, she has also won the Avery Fisher Career Grant and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.
