Hina Spani was a renowned classical music artist who was born on 15th August 1923 in Lahore, British India (now Pakistan). She was born into a family of musicians, and her father, Ustad Jhande Khan, was a well-known classical singer. Hina Spani was the youngest of her siblings, and she grew up in a musical environment that nurtured her talent and passion for music. Hina Spani started her musical training at a young age, and she received her initial training from her father. She was a quick learner and showed exceptional talent in classical music. Her father recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Hina Spani continued her training under the guidance of her father and other renowned classical music teachers. In 1947, Hina Spani migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India. She continued her musical training in Pakistan and became a disciple of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, a legendary classical singer. Under his guidance, Hina Spani honed her skills and developed her unique style of singing. She also learned to sing in various languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, and Persian. Hina Spani made her debut performance in 1952 at the Lahore Music Festival, where she received critical acclaim for her exceptional performance. Her performance was so impressive that it caught the attention of the legendary classical singer, Ustad Amir Khan. He invited her to perform at the All India Music Conference in Kolkata, where she received a standing ovation for her performance. Hina Spani's career took off after her performance at the All India Music Conference. She became a regular performer at various music festivals and concerts in Pakistan and India. Her performances were highly appreciated by the audience and critics alike, and she soon became one of the most sought-after classical singers in the region. Hina Spani's unique style of singing was characterized by her soulful voice, impeccable control over sur and taal, and her ability to convey the emotions of the lyrics through her singing. She was known for her renditions of ghazals, thumris, and khyals, and her performances were marked by her improvisations and intricate taans. Hina Spani's career spanned over five decades, and she performed in various countries, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. She was awarded the Pride of Performance by the Government of Pakistan in 1965, and the Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 1980. She was also awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1974, and the Padma Bhushan in 2006. Hina Spani's legacy continues to inspire generations of classical music artists.
