Artist Info
The Mozartists is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 2016 by conductor and pianist Ian Page. The ensemble is dedicated to performing music from the Classical and early Romantic periods, with a particular focus on the works of Mozart and his contemporaries. Ian Page, who serves as the artistic director and conductor of The Mozartists, has a long and distinguished career in the classical music world. He has conducted orchestras and ensembles all over the world, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He is also the founder and artistic director of the period-instrument orchestra Classical Opera, which specializes in the works of Mozart and his contemporaries. The Mozartists is made up of a core group of musicians, many of whom are also members of Classical Opera. These include some of the most talented and respected period-instrument players in the world, such as violinist Matthew Truscott, cellist Jonathan Manson, and oboist Katharina Spreckelsen. One of the highlights of The Mozartists' early career was their debut performance at Wigmore Hall in London in 2017. The concert, which was titled "Mozart in London," featured a program of music by Mozart and his contemporaries that was inspired by the composer's visits to the city in the 1760s and 1770s. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish The Mozartists as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in the classical music world. Since then, The Mozartists have gone on to perform at some of the most prestigious venues and festivals in the world, including the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the BBC Proms. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned soloists in the classical music world, such as soprano Lucy Crowe and tenor Allan Clayton. One of the most notable aspects of The Mozartists' performances is their commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity. The ensemble uses period instruments and plays music in the style and manner that it would have been performed in the 18th and early 19th centuries. This approach has earned them critical acclaim and a loyal following among classical music enthusiasts. In addition to their live performances, The Mozartists have also released several recordings on the Signum Classics label. These include a recording of Mozart's opera "La finta semplice," which was released in 2018 to critical acclaim. The recording features a stellar cast of soloists, including soprano Chiara Skerath and tenor Thomas Walker, and was praised for its lively and engaging performances. The Mozartists have also been recognized with several awards and honors for their contributions to the classical music world. In 2019, they were awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award for their recording of Mozart's "Apollo et Hyacinthus." The award, which is considered one of the highest honors in the classical music world, was a testament to the ensemble's commitment to excellence and their dedication to preserving and promoting the music of Mozart and his contemporaries. Overall, The Mozartists are a remarkable ensemble that has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting and innovative groups in the classical music world.More....
