Ana Milosavljevic is a Serbian-American composer, violinist, and educator who has made a significant impact on the classical music scene. Born in Belgrade, Serbia, in 1977, Milosavljevic began playing the violin at the age of six. Her parents, both musicians, recognized her talent early on and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Milosavljevic's family moved to the United States when she was ten years old, settling in New York City. She continued her musical studies at the Juilliard School, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance. She went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Columbia University. As a composer, Milosavljevic has written works for a variety of ensembles, including orchestras, chamber groups, and solo performers. Her music has been performed by some of the world's leading musicians and ensembles, including the American Composers Orchestra, the New Juilliard Ensemble, and the JACK Quartet. One of Milosavljevic's most notable works is her violin concerto, "Ascending Order," which was commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra and premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2013. The piece was praised for its "dramatic intensity" and "virtuosic solo writing" by The New York Times. Milosavljevic has also received numerous awards and honors for her work as a composer and performer. In 2014, she was awarded a New Music USA Project Grant for her multimedia work, "Infinite Variations." The piece, which combines live music with video projections, explores the concept of infinity and was performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. As a performer, Milosavljevic has appeared as a soloist with orchestras and chamber groups around the world. She has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including jazz pianist Vijay Iyer and indie rock band The National. In addition to her work as a composer and performer, Milosavljevic is also an educator. She has taught at several universities, including Columbia University and the New School, and has served as a mentor to young composers through programs such as the American Composers Orchestra's EarShot program. Milosavljevic's contributions to the classical music world have been widely recognized, and she continues to be a leading figure in the field. Her innovative compositions and dynamic performances have earned her a reputation as one of the most exciting and influential musicians of her generation.
